Meet the Couple:
Matthew works as an Engineer at John Deere, and Katelyn is a Hospice Nurse. Their love story began at Iowa State during their sophomore year at homecoming.

The Proposal:
On a beautiful Fall night, Matthew planned a picnic to celebrate Katelyn's recent promotion at work. He took her to a walking trail they frequent often. Just off the path, Matthew had set up her favorite plaid blanket with a basket filled with her favorites; champagne, cheese, crackers, and gummi bears. She giggled as she saw her favorite treat, knowing Matthew never understood her love for them. She bent down to pick them up, only to turn around to Matthew down on one knee saying, "Will you be Mrs. Douglas?"

The Details

Venue: The Vineyard at Saint Charles

Located in the countryside of Saint Charles, Iowa. Once you arrive you see the beauty of quaint southern Iowa views with overnight amenities just twenty minutes away in metro

Des Moines. The wedding day had snow-skimmed trees while the sun glistened through the windows. Inside the candle-filled fireplace kept a simple yet elegant background as the couple said "I do." The cross-back chairs were filled with close family and friends beaming with joy for the couple.

We loved seeing the bride’s first look at herself on the dressing pedestal as her train graciously draped over. She was simply stunning.

Caterer: Off The Griddle

Local catering company based out of Saint Charles, Iowa. Known for their home-cooked, comfort food style. They delivered an elegant Sicilian Chicken, Garlic Parmesan Potatoes, Lemon Asparagus, and Berry Salad.

Starting with the fresh Berry Salad. This salad’s base of mixed greens with fresh blueberries and strawberries merry with pecans and feta cheese then is finished with a red wine vinaigrette. It’s a refreshing starter any time of the year!

The Sicilian chicken is sauteed in olive oil and topped with a sundried tomato cream sauce and fresh basil that explodes with flavor.

Garlic Parmesan Mashed Potatoes are the perfect complement to the acidity and sweetness of the toasted garlic and salty parmesan.

These creamy potatoes are the ultimate combination of light, yet indulgent comfort food!

Finishing with the beautiful side of Lemon Garlic Parmesan Asparagus. Roasted until fork tender and topped with fresh Parmesan and garnished lemon. Paired beautifully with a house white wine.

The presentation of the meal was as beautiful as it was delicious.

Photographer: Brooklyn G Photography

Brooklyn, an Iowa-based photographer, prides herself on capturing love stories. Knowing their background, she made sure to capture their little moments together. From the way he gazed at her to capturing her laugh when he added some much-needed humor at the right moment. Capturing their moments outside she took advantage of the gorgeous colors during the sun-setting end of the day.

We loved how she captured each special moment throughout the day. When they look back they can see a highlight of their love story told in photos.

Photographer: Sweet Story Photography

Amanda, owner of Sweet Story Photography in Des Moines, looked past the camera to ensure the bride and groom were comfortable and then captured them as their true selves. From the bride’s gorgeous accessories to the cake cutting, she captured beautifully poised and timeless moments.

We loved how her photos were breathtaking and will be timeless for years to come.

Florals: Tulipsis Floral, LLC

Central Iowa and sister-owned Tulipsis provided pink and white roses that were full and exceptional along with burgundy calla lilies. While white stock filled in among the burgundy ranunculus.

The simplicity of the rose in the decor was beautiful and gave glimpses of those soft colors throughout the wedding day.

The burgundy calla lilies looked stunning and

the roses added soft elegance to the bouquet.

From the colors to the texture, they paired excellently with the satin of her dress.

We loved how it was the perfect combination of simplicity and elegance, along with the depth of color.

Dress: Lulus

The Dress: Lulu's Exclusive Feeling of Forever White Long Sleeve Mermaid Dress

Simple yet gorgeous for her big day! This mermaid dress was a medium-weight, slightly stretchy crepe knit fabric with a V-neckline and a princess-seamed bodice. The dress was framed with fitted long sleeves. The high, fitted waist that gave a figure-skimming silhouette was flattering with a flaring maxi hem and a romantic train.

We loved how her dress complimented her gorgeous and flattering features. One of our favorite details was the front and back deep-v styles mirrored.

Hair: Hairdo by Marissa Williams

Marissa has been a hairstylist in New York and now brings her passion to central Iowa. Marissa left Katelyn’s long locks down with a soft curl through the base. The side is pinned back with a stunning yet simple hairpiece.

The soft curl in her hair complimented the style of her dress. Both statements worked graciously together.

We loved how her hair had movement throughout the day yet looked composed and styled in photos even through the very end of the night.

Makeup: Beauty by Briawna

Midwest-based makeup artist Briawna matched and kept Katelyn's color palette natural while highlighting Katelyn's favorite features. She intentionally chose a shadow palette that complimented her skin tone and flower colors. She highlighted her cheeks and kept her lip neutral with a touch of kissable color.

We loved how she chose shades that were flattering with the deep-v neckline, and tied in her wedding colors while complimenting her look.

Cake: Always Baked Sweets and Treats

Des Moines-based baker Elida, also known for her booze-infused confections. She kept with the simplicity theme of the day and created an elegant 6” round vanilla almond wedding cake. In between the cake, she layered whipped almond frosting.

The cake was a statement piece with a light whirl of gold covered in white roses and dainty flowers with greenery.

We loved how the cake looked like a decor piece, yet was absolutely delicious.

Paper: CurlyQ Paperie

Jodi is the owner of the Iowa custom design wedding stationery studio. She designed a stunning stationery suite for Katelyn and Matthew. She kept the invite and details simple with an elegant font to match Katelyn's style for the day. She used a beautiful hue of green for the envelope with floral lined paper that included subtle colors. While also including an elegant pop of pink to tie it all together.

We loved how Jodi highlighted Katelyn's love for her favorite shade of pink while using design to make it a timeless keepsake.

When others couldn't see their vision, Katelyn and Matthew saw an intimate setting for a beautiful indoor late winter wedding at The Vineyard at Saint Charles. They started the day off in the bridal suites, with close family and the glam team of Beauty by Briawna and Hairdo by Marissa Williams for Katelyn. With her sister there to assist, Katelyn slipped on her Lulus wedding dress ready to say 'I do!.'

Matthew ushered family and close friends to their seats then stood at the fireplace waiting for his bride. Katelyn, ushered by her father, made her way down the aisle with her bouquet taking center stage from Tulipsis Floral.

After their intimate ceremony photographed by Sweet Story Photography, they sat down to dinner with menus by CurlyQ Paperie and dinner presented by Off the Griddle. The couple shared the first slice of cake from Always Baked Sweets & Treats. And ended their wedding day by taking sunset snapshots from Brooklyn G Photography.
