Guest Blog Feature: Planner? Day of Coordinator? Which One with Elizabeth Bliss! (Part 1)

Today, our Guest Blog Feature is

Lauren from Elizabeth Bliss Events.

We had the pleasure of getting to know her at our Open House this year, and we know you’re going to love her! She brings insight not only to the great services she offers but is an asset to any wedding day.

Lauren is walking us through planners to coordinators, wedding day checklists, and who they best serve!

There are so many different types of planners and coordinators that will help you plan your wedding, that it sometimes gets confusing. In this article, we break down all of the wedding planning services people offer when it comes to helping you plan your big day.

However, before you book someone to help you plan your big day, check on the breakdown services they offer. Although you may be looking for a full-time wedding planner, a company's day of coordination services may cover the same things, and more!

For my company, Elizabeth Bliss Events, my day of coordination packages include full-time planning as well as day of coordination. My services start from the moment a couple books, until the very end of their event. Although it's called ‘day of’, I help throughout the entire wedding planning process, and a lot of wedding companies are set up that way too! So make sure you check with your coordinator/planner to see what you’re really getting for their services!

With that being said, here is a breakdown of all the wedding planning services people offer.

FULL TIME PLANNER.

A full time wedding planner will help you plan your wedding from the very beginning, until the very end. These types of planners are great for couples who want step-by-step guidance throughout their wedding day, and those that are too busy to go through all the wedding planning alone. Let’s face it, wedding planning takes up a lot of time and can be pretty stressful at times. Hiring a full time planner to take care of the majority of your wedding needs is such a great investment! It really allows you to be fully present and enjoy your wedding rather than needing to plan everything down to the last detail.

Things a Full Time Planner Does:

  • Helps You Create a Budget & Stick To It

  • Creates Your Timeline

  • Recommend & Hire Vendors

  • Help with Event Design

  • Facilitate Venue Tours

  • Stationary Assistance

  • Floor Plan Creation

  • Set Up for Ceremony and Reception

  • Delegate and Complete Wedding Setup, Fulfilling Clients Vision

  • Liaison Among all Vendors, Communicating and Overseeing Deliveries

  • Coordination of Ceremony Rehearsal

  • Setup of Personal Items Such as Décor, Guest Book, Photos, Toasting Flutes, Cake Cutting Pieces, Favors, Place Cards, Signs, etc.

  • Direction of You and Your Wedding Party Throughout the Day, Ensuring You’re on Time and In the Right Places

Full Time Wedding Planners are

Great Options for People Who:

  • Need guidance throughout the wedding planning process

  • Have large guest counts (100+)

  • Couples who have full time jobs, which makes wedding planning harder

  • Couples who don’t want to handle logistics such as RSVPs, timelines, and seating charts

  • Couples who want design assistance

PART TIME PLANNER.

Partial planners help in the same way full time planners do, but their services are more limited. No two weddings are alike, so these planners allow their couples to pick and choose which services they need the most help for. These services are best for a couple who has most things under control, but needs a little help with the finer details.

DAY OF COORDINATOR

A day of coordinator is the perfect option for you if you’re looking for a stress-free wedding day. Each day of coordinator's services differs from when they jump in to start planning. Some day of coordinators like myself are hands-on from the very minute you book us, very much like a full time planner. We help you from the moment you book and help you until the very end of your event.

Other day of coordinators jump in a few weeks before your big day to gather all of your information, but are nonetheless still there to help on your special day. They will leave most of the planning and logistics to you but will pull through and bring everything together to fit your vision on the day of your wedding.

Things a Day of Coordinator Does:

  • Creates Itinerary

  • Oversee and Execute Wedding Itinerary

  • Delegate and Complete Wedding Setup, Fulfilling Client's Vision

  • Liaison Among all Vendors, Communicating and Overseeing Deliveries

  • Coordination of Ceremony Rehearsal

  • Setup of Personal Items Such as Décor, Guest Book, Photos, Toasting Flutes, Cake Cutting Pieces, Favors, Place Cards, Signs, etc.

  • Directs You and Your Wedding Party Throughout the Day, Ensuring You’re on Time and In the Right Places

Should I Ask My Family To Help With My Wedding, Or Hire A Day Of Coordinator?

Your friends and family don’t want to work on your wedding day, but they’re not going to tell you that. They aren’t going to want to arrive early to your venue to take hours to set up all of your décor, check in all of your vendors and answer their questions, keep you and your bridal party on schedule, keep your photography schedule on time, etc. That’s a lot to keep track of right? Well that’s just a few things they’ll need to do BEFORE your ceremony, there’s even more running around they’ll need to do after that! Let me break it down for you in sections of what you'll need help with in the morning, during the ceremony, during the reception, and at the end of the night. After you go through all the duties of a coordinator, I’m sure you’ll see why your friends and family don’t want to take on the task of helping you plan your wedding on the day of. It’s not because they don’t want to help, it's because it can be pretty overwhelming setting up a wedding from start to finish.
